What happened once the application was lodged?

The RiverLink Application was lodged in August 2021. It was reviewed by Greater Wellington Regional Council and Hutt City Council (the regulators), and publicly notified. A copy of the application and supporting information can be viewed on Greater Wellington’s website at: https://haveyoursay.gw.govt.nz/riverlink-consent

When the application was publicly notified, the general public were advised that ‘any person may make a submission on this application’. Which did happen.

Subsequently RiverLink made a request (that was granted) to have the resource consents and notices of requirement decided by the Environment Court, rather than the councils – this is called direct referral. This process streamlines decision-making for large scale, complex applications like RiverLink.
